Content Validation
An important component of the planning process utilized by the
Office of Continuing Professional Development in Medicine and
Public Health is its comprehensive Clinical Content Review
Service. Under the direction of Andrew Urban, MD faculty from
the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health
carefully scrutinize CME content so that the activities it
sponsors are objective, fair balanced, scientifically valid, and
free from bias.
Dr. Urban has recruited and educated over eighty specialists
covering thirty-three areas of medicine to help OCPD achieve its
goal of providing a comprehensive system to validate CME
content. The faculty members comprising the service have been
carefully trained to unearth commercial bias. They also ensure
that the content is appropriate to the target audience and that
all treatment recommendations reflect the best available
evidence.
A standardized review form is completed by the faculty
reviewer and forwarded to Dr. Urban for review and incorporation of the
faculty reviewer's recommendations into the final educational product.
