The primary purpose of the School’s Office of Continuing Professional Development (OCPD) is to maintain this important accreditation status and to support the continuing professional development for physicians. OCPD carries out this purpose through the following functions:

  1. Certifies and validates CME activities through the application of ACCME accreditation criteria and AMA PRA credit requirements. OCPD staff have in-depth knowledge of the criteria and requirements and have developed policies and educational strategies that distinguish certified CME provided by the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health from other CME providers.
  2. Awards AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ to learners who successfully participate in CME activities certified by the School. Maintains such records of participation for a minimum of 6 years as required by the ACCME.
